Sun to cut more jobsAugust 7, 2007

Sun Microsystems has insisted that it does not intend to cut its way to growth.

Sun did not specify how many jobs the staff reduction would affect, but said that it expected to incur restructuring charges of $100 million to $150 million in the next couple of quarters, primarily resulting from cash severance costs.

Arranged Marriage May Be Next for FreescaleSeptember 11, 2006

Freescale Semiconductor said in a statement Monday that it is in "discussions with parties relating to a possible business transaction."

According to a report in The New York Times, that business transaction is actually a $16 billion buyout offer from the Texas Pacific Group, the Blackstone group, Permira and the Carlyle Group.

Meanwhile, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Silver Lake Partners have reportedly put a rival offer on the table.

TI chip-making process to double output per waferJune 12, 2006

NEW YORK, June 12 (Reuters) - Texas Instruments Inc. said on Monday a new chip-making process will double the number of chips produced on each silicon wafer, boosting processing speed and cutting power consumption ahead of rival Intel Corp.

TI, the biggest supplier of chips for mobile phones, said the 45-nanometer chip-making process could lift device speeds by around 30 percent and cut power consumption by 40 percent.

New York - Intel's Paul Otellini may be about to sell and slash to remake the world's largest chipmaker.

Intel is reportedly shopping around a couple of its communications units as part of an ongoing restructuring designed to make the company more profitable. Significant job cuts might also be looming.
